I gotta give Representative Anthony Weiner some real hard-core props right now because he’s done nothing but give and give and give to all sorts of different causes and we are so obsessed with how he’s giving it that we fail to realize the good man that he is.

First of all. Let’s talk about single moms and the struggle they face in this society. They are often tired and hard working women -who no single man will touch because- well, who wants to raise some other mans kid? Most men don’t. Not to mention the clear warning in the 1996 movie called “Jerry Maguire” that all men have seen at least twice which specifically warns young single men that “a real man does not shoplift the pooty from a single mother”. What they don’t mention is that sometimes- a single mom wants that pooty robbed over and over as long as it happens before the kid gets back from its Dads. I mean, they’re busy and sometimes you just have to get it done so you don’t turn into angry bitter mommy.

Who was there to save the day? Anthony Weiner. Single Mom loving NYC Democrat. Did he intrude in her life and uproot her world moving her into his mansion with his wife and the illegitimate child he made with her all while she washes his and his wife’s clothes and plays with your child and your wife’s children? No, you can save those shenanigans for the Republicans. Weiner kindly stroked her ego while she stroked his (via text message) all while she had the free time to run around and get her single mom business done. And for all of you single mothers out there… you know how it is. It’s much appreciated when a guy can turn you on without you having to forgo doing the laundry.

His efforts did not stop there. Like Jesus he turned and reached out to the loose women as well. Caring for them, sending them kind words and images for them to hold onto late at night when they were tired of being molested for money on the small screens of whatever perverts delight. Did he mention he was a big time law maker? No. Did he say he was the son of God the way Jesus did? No. (That’s cheating if you ask me). He just pretended to be a regular ol’ Joe who happened to be Sextpeare when it came to flirty words.

What a guy.

Woot.

Now this public servant is being ridiculed and all of the legal citizens he was watching out for are being hung out to dry. What a shame. What the fuck has America come to?

Clinton made big girls sexy and now Weiner is making single moms and porn stars sexy…er. Have you no shame lame-stream media? Who will watch out for these women if its not Weiner late at night in a dark corner of his house so his WIFE won’t catch him? Because outside of being a sext-a-holic he is also a work-a-holic and that has to count for something. Even if it is 6 inches of self respect. It’s six inches and that is impressive.

Picture this-

a tall Latina woman sitting in her office kingdom a.k.a little tiny cubicle. She gets an alert on her super bad ass android phone that there is a new music video online from an artist that she might like. She clicks into it because her office is kinda laid back about checking your personal smart phone hoobidy habbidies. On that tiny but high-definition screen she watches a video with a tall Black woman who looks like she’s made out of honey and bitters dancing in a Mad Max type setting screaming at her about how girls run the world. Yeah… she’s into it. This is awesome. (she thinks in that kind of calm but office inner excited sort of way that you could only understand if you were working a corporate job that was generally great but made you die inside a little everyday because it’s not the thing you really want to be doing since that other thing is my real passion… I mean, this tall Latina chick’s that you’re picturing)

Beyoncé, like a bird about to get into battle, shakes her body in ways that I can only picture doing in fast forward on a VCR… DVD.

* side note: I left VCR up there because it was the first thing I thought of and I thought you’d get a kick out of how totally dorky that is.

The tall Latina is so incredibly pumped up while listening to this “Who runs the world girls” song that she manages to gather her cojones together and march herself into her bosses office and request going part-time so she could pursue my real passion … I mean hers, a little more throughout the week.

Because of that song.

Sometimes all you need is that “right” song at the “right” moment to be inspired to do that “thing” you know you must do. Right then.
I know you’ve been there that girl just got away from you because you chicken shitted about being the man that she needs you to be and then all of a sudden you turn on the radio (in the car she just stormed out of) in order to forget her or forget “it” or whatever and blasting through the car speakers at the moment is “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West and you just really fucking feel that moment right then. Like… “Yeah I’m not loving you.. like I wanted to……. I’m in love with you but the vibe is wrong….. (cue jungle madness) .. no no no nnnooo…. you lose”. And that’s just what you needed to hear so you could keep driving. Not being tempted to be scared of the idea that you may not get laid for a while but that beautiful woman you were dating was BATSHIT CRAZY and you’ve just liberated yourself. Then you go home, order a pizza and over priced delivery beer (because that’s how you’re gonna motha fuckin’ role right now beeACH) to pop open that new version of Grand Theft Auto you’ve been waiting to pop into the Playstation that you haven’t fondled FOR MONTHS because of that Negative Nancy you were dating.

You get it.

Music is music and it’s meant to cause a reaction. Some people care if it’s a good one, some people intend for it to be a bad one but ultimately artistically speaking, a reaction is a good get. So when I stumbled upon a video blog that had been posted on a popular feminist website I happened upon and all I see is a caption that reads something like “Girls don’t really run the world Beyoncé”. Okay… I’m curious so I bite. What follows is the most unnecessary rant ever given by a woman since Sarah Palin last said she has a “fire in her belly”… I think it’s gas. This young woman thought it a “must” to remind all who cared to watch, especially woman, as it was on a feminist website, that we don’t run shit and not only don’t we run shit but most of the world oppresses women and we get raped 90% of the time that people get raped… empowering message lady. She went on for too long and by the end of it I felt defeated and snapped back into my shitty woman reality of fearing being raped walking home drunk from the party I attended or unable to move forward in my career because I have a vagina and thus get paid less than my penis carrying counterpart.

All of which is valid. I mean it’s true… being a woman isn’t always the best thing when you’re born outside of America. And yes people kill baby girls in some parts of the world (CHINA CHINA CHINA). Even in America it’s not all that awesome. And yes we have some major lawsuits against big companies like Wal-Mart (for example) who are accused of paying women less than men per hour. All true. If there is a God, when I die I will ask him (her) why he (she) didn’t give women the penis since we seem to be more equipped to handle it. Both emotionally and morally. But whateves here I am alive in this woman hating world. All of this I know because I live in the world that this young woman was trying to pants in the video. But sometimes… I need a little fucking encouragement. A little less reality and little more fantasy and possibility and guess who’s right there to offer me a kick ass message… honey and bitters. Beyoncé has actually brain washed young women with a few positive messages, “if you like it then you better put a ring on it”. I mean, crap, I don’t even have the balls to say that to my boyfriend of 2 years… but I’ll blast the shit outta that song anytime here’s around… especially when he’s trying to talk to me.

So.. young angry feminist…. just, for gods sake… sh. Jesus Christ woman. Are you against the ability to cause a reaction artistically because truthfully that’s a very unwomanly freedom fighter kind of thing. Why not have a song you can pop in (yup like a cassette player I’d thought you like that too) and add a little weight to your swagger. Why do I need to be REMINDED about all the reasons I don’t feel empowered on a day-to-day basis? That’s just… obnoxious. Seriously.

I respect the feminist thing. In many ways I’m a living breathing real life feminist with hair and all. I’m not into beating you over the head with details that are already beating you over the head. I’m into inspiration and empowerment and thoughts are things and what you think about is what you bring about.

One of our fans, Linda Garza-Rodriguez is the VP of Marketing and Resource Development at a non-profit called The Resurrection Project, serving the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Check this out: They are in the running for a Chase Gives donation, and it would help them create “La Casa”, the nation’s first community-based student housing development. It would provide housing for young Latino college students! Isn’t that amazing?! We thought so too. With the money they would get from Chase, they could provide 151 low income students in Chicago with housing counseling and resources to help them succeed in their college career.

After we wrapped an awesome weekend of shooting last week, where we couldn’t stop cracking each other up, we were out dancing salsa Sunday night, to the biggest news to hit our country in 10 years: the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Some crazy friend of ours told us Osama was dead and we thought he was trying to make some weird joke while we were trying to get our dance-on. But when we looked up at the TV’s, we were like, “Really Obama? Really?! We love you, but….damn”. Soooo…we gave him the chancletazo, even though he’s the country’s hero right now, so there. We’re Latinas, sometimes we have to give you a spanking even though we love you.

But before all that craziness, we got to thinking. We know we’ve voiced our grievances regarding our conservative friends in the past. And we may have been harsh at times, but at the root of our passion, and the reason we get upset, is that we know that ultimately, we all want the same things out of life. We just have different paths and thoughts on how to achieve those things. We’re all just people tryin to make it in this crazy world and still managing to be human along the way. Most conservatives don’t know that the right wing media (or Western media for that matter) is spinning their stories to suit the need of corporations and special interest groups, who have powerful lobbyists in Washington, controlling how YOUR Senators/Representative’s votes for YOU. Get that? The people YOU elected in the House, are being lead NOT by the constituents who voted for them, they are being lead by manipulation and in turn, contribute to the massive misinformation that exists in this country.

HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean we have to call our fellow conservative countrymen “nutbags, douchebags, F-nut” or any of those hateful names. We don’t want to add to the hatred going around, we just want people to dig for themselves, to not swallow everything their own brand of media tells them. Go, find, look, turn, be curious. This IS our country and WE are the ones who should be influencing the decisions, us, you, your tio, your cousin, your friend. All of us.

Now, with that being said: How ’bout that Royal Weddin’ huh?! For real, I’ll never understand our obsession with British Royalty, but we do love us some fashions. Kate was beautiful and all that, but we here at POPlitical, have always laughed imagining what it would be like if a Dominicana from the Bronx got to be the Princess. Well…the chances of that are slim to none, so we thought it would be funnier if said Dominicana thought she was actually going to be a princess and be a part of the Royal Wedding. ::In our best Bravo voice:: “Watch What Happens”

They do don’t they?

Under all the cacophony and name calling stirred up by Republican and Democrat Senators and Representatives, live… THE PEOPLE. That’s us.

You know, most of America still lives under the assumption that if they elect a Senator or Representative with similar beliefs and moral code, that in turn, those Senators and Representatives will take care of their best interests, fight for what they need in order to live a content life, and be open, honest, tell them the truth about what they’ve been doing for this community in Washington, y’know- REPRESENT them. We would hope that this is the case.

THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Senators and Representatives are just people, people with their own dreams, visions, agendas, and left to their own devices, it’s possible that most of these people will succumb to very human characteristics like jealousy, greed, power, and narcissism. It is up to us, to continue to hold the people we elect, accountable. Accountable for their words, actions, votes, and the information or misinformation they choose to share with their constituents.

We stumbled upon a channel called New Left Media on Youtube. It opened our eyes to the fact that we’re all just people here. We come from different backgrounds, we have a different way of going about wanting the same things out of life. I was watching the guys from New Left Media interview this older couple at a Tea Party rally, and they looked so pleasant. As pleasant as my gringa friend’s grandparents…yeah totally…we stopped by there when we went to her hometown for a visit! Another woman looked as nice and maybe as annoying as Patty from the office, and then there’s Rick- the guy who rotates my tires! Wow, I love these people, well, I don’t LOVE love them, but I definitely don’t mean them any harm.

I just want them to know that they’re being misinformed- everyday. They sit at a rally supporting a group they think they believe in, and they don’t even know about the misinformation dripping from their lips, fed to them by Fox News (and all the major media outlets for that matter) and the Representatives that they elected to represent them, who are now getting rich on their constituents’ dimes. They sit there in Washington calling each other names and playing the blame game, all the while pushing forward lobbyists’ agendas, and stuffing our money into Big Corporation’s pockets.

Well, the whole things just reminds us of a bad reality show, even though, we love us some Real World. Take a look and tell us if the parallel isn’t right on.

Next week we’ll go over some ways you may be able to approach your Conservative compatriots, with a few of these points and see if we can’t all start waking up and opening our eyes to who and what is really running our country.

So this week we learned something: the more you learn, the more you don’t know. The battle in Washington continues, with the Republicans coming out on top, (on top of a pile of garbage we can’t find room for). The Conservatives’ budget plan, led by Rep. Paul Ryan (cute, but delusional) continue to give Big Business BIG TAX BREAKS, while the rest of us are left paying for it.

Guess what corporataions haven’t even thought about paying federal taxes in YEARS?! You won’t believe it. We got this list from Moveon.org: Exxon Mobil, Bank of America, GE, Chevron, and Carnival Cruise Lines?! Really?! ::burp:: Yes, really.

How long are we gonna go blind to this guys?! Until the American Dream is just a whisper in a polluted, corrupt, and wartorn land we used to call our home? It’s time to wash the eye boogers out of our eyes, grab some coffee, and start paying attention! We don’t wanna yell at you all the time, it’s loud and rude, but you’ve left us no choice.

It’s not ALL bad, there are some people who are trying to cut through crap and get to the bottom of it. One of those people is Rep. Joe Crowley, he took his one minute on the House Floor and left us “speechless”, take a gander at this video, with Bob Dylan as the soundtrack, will give you chills.

I would say it’s nothing personal but that is not the truth.

It’s very personal.

See, yesterday it was announced that Glenn Beck was getting the boot from Fox. And I shared that with my Facebook friends. I know… I wasn’t very lady like when I posted, in regards to Mr. Beck leaving, the following status update:

“See ya later fake-a-lator. You put the ouch in Douche my friend. Yes you do.”

Why did I compare him to a douche?  Douche’s collect the fofo stuff that comes out of the female vagina, usually after sex but sometimes to freshen up as well. The Douche does actually serve a really good purpose for women. It was wrong to use a very valuable asset to the female body to describe the filthy nasty persona of Mr. Beck.

So my apologies first go to the Douche bag, of any brand or variety. You’ve gotten a bad rap over the years and I think it’s time to take it back. I didn’t mean to offend the plastic bulbous apparatus that has for years kept the female vagina clean and smelling summers eve-ish. And we all know how wonderful a summer evening can be.

Let’s take that in for a moment.

Moving on-

You are a dear conservative friend of mine and I value your friendship because its important to me to be clued into a different point of view or perspective. But this man (Beck) says things that are so hateful and terrible, things about Latinos for instance that are cruel and awful.

Such as:

“I’ve got a quick message for illegal aliens if you happen to be watching; you better start packing your bags; and to the politicians in Washington who are soft on illegal immigration, start packing up your office, because when the terrorists strike, which they will, and when we find out that they’re here illegally from some other country, we will be telling all of you to get the hell out;”

and

“I also know our country is on fire, and the fuel is illegal immigration; they (threaten) our national security;” they come for “three reasons: one, they’re terrorists; two, they’re escaping the law; or three, they’re hungry (because) they can’t make a living in their own dirtbag country.”

So yesterday when you, my dear friend said the following things on my wall in response to my post:

If this is true, it really is the death of free speech”

“whatever you think of Beck, it’s not cool when a show that has high ratings gets canceled because it’s criticizing the most powerful person in the US. That’s not a good sign for a republic.”

& my favorite

“Saying that a show ‘gets to stay on’ when ‘masking opinion as truth’ is your opinion. It’s also your opinion that he pushes hate and extremism…”

you know what it made me think?

“Fuck you.”

I can’t stand behind your point of view and I certainly don’t have to read it or have my friends  argue it. I know you have your arguments and conspiracy theories. And you know what, you’re probably right. Maybe it’s true that  ”‘Color for Change’, which is run by Van Jones organized a boycott (through everyday people who signed a petition in support of this not some lunatic lobbyist) of anyone who advertises on Beck’s show.” Maybe things do work that way- but really, when you get off your high horse and think about it, you voting for Bush for 2 terms straight helped lay that kind of ground work down and cement it even further.

Let’s pontificate on this for a moment shall we friend?

I know it sucks that some big organization can shake their fists at advertisers and have those very advertisers pull out of a show causing the end of that show on any given network. But my friends are smart and when one of them posted

“A for-profit news network decided it was too difficult to keep him on“

she was correct.

For-Profit news is the devil regardless of which side it leans on.

That’s the problem right there, dear conservative friend of mine. And if I recall correctly, the conservatives in government are pretty adamant about stripping funding from the rest of the not-for profit news sources. Leaving us with for-profit news and the susceptibility of that relying on advertisers dollars. This does in fact put a lot of stock on corporations/advertisers which we all now know have been given this leniency by republican policy makers.

So I guess we have another apology here which is-

I’m sorry you voted this type of policy making into place and now don’t like it. Why you have never commented on any of my screams of frustration in regard to this very matter is beyond my understanding. Why you chime in to tell me that the end of Glenn Beck on Fox is the death of freedom of speech is beyond my fucking patience level of understanding.

While we’re on the topic:

I watched when you attacked my sick friend who has insurance (and is constantly trying to get fucked and denied through it) because he supports the public health option.

I sat silent when you would go back and forth with rational intelligent people about their viewpoints or thoughts on any particular political subject that you disagreed with however misguided your stance was.

I secretly envied people for being able to delete you off their Facebook page even though I know they care for you and your well-being but could not take another second of your rhetoric.

How could I delete you friend? After all, yours are some of my favorite hello & goodbye hugs.

But then it hit me.

Like a ray of common sense shining on the ass of a Conservative…

I don’t have to listen to this shit. Like Mr. Glenn Becks show, I can turn you off and sit and wait until you exhaust yourself. And while I’m sure that you will still find an outlet to spew your nonsensical garbage at people through, as Mr. Glenn Beck will find an outlet I’m sure- I would prefer to give you an opportunity to speak your mind to my face in person so you can see the disappointment in my eyes and feel the vibrations of my heart breaking when you defend someone who has basically called me a criminal for wanting a better quality of life.

I’ve just read through this short article in the Chicago Sun Times talking about how Illinois, and a few other states are taking measures against the Secure Communities program.

If you don’t know what that is, here you go: basically it was set up to “seek out illegal immigrants with criminal records by checking the fingerprints of people arrested, running the prints through federal databases.”

Sounds totes good in theory right? Sounds like a celebration and a solution to the pesky immigration problem! Those guys are the ones giving illegal immigrants a bad name anyways. Silly criminals. “Yeah, go ahead and get those gangbangers outta here!!! Wooo!” I’m all for that too if that were truly the case. If we didn’t have to depend on human emotion to carry out certain laws. But what’s actually happening is that law enforcement is abusing this program. So that people like Susana Ramirez, as delineated in the article, was simply driving her daughter to school, pulled over for a traffic violation, and quicker than you can make cafesito, she’s facing deportation to Mexico. So now, her daughter’s education and not to mention safety and well being is at stake, because of the “War on Illegal Immigration”. What started out as day like any other, is now this family’s nightmare. Does this sound right or just to you?

This is not the only horror story, there are more like these every day. A few weeks ago a 4 year old US citizen, named Emily Ruiz, was detained trying to come back into the country with her grandfather who had a legal work visa. Customs knew that he had come into the country illegally in the 90′s, her parents are undocumented, and because of that, gave the family 2 options: They would detain the 4 year old in a juvenile detention center in Virginia, or she would be deported with her grandfather back to Guatemala. Leaving her parents undocumented and childless in America.

You might say, well, it’s their fault for risking their lives in this way. But to those who would say that, I wish I could paint a virtual picture for you, of what it is to walk through a third world country. What it is to walk, see, feel, through villages of extreme poverty. Remember those commercials you hated so much as a kid on late night TV, with Sally Struthers or some other has-been 70′s celebrity telling you to donate money? Those images they portray there, you would see those come to life right before your very eyes. It would put in perspective for you, that there are actually children on our side of the continent that starve every night. To some people, these villages seem like the end of the world; with no available jobs and global warming taking its toll on crops, to these people, there is no way out.

Many of those who make it here, do so with these images in their heads. You can’t imagine how this sort of desperation can motivate a person. Images of their families starving and sick. If they could just step into this country they could some how, some way, help their families out of their current strife.

As a second generation American citizen, Latina, more often than not, these are the types of people I meet. People like my grandfather who came here because there was a revolution in Dominican Republic, with no work anywhere in his own country, unless you worked for the dictator. My Abuelito who, worked on a golf course in upstate New York, traveling there from the Bronx every single day. For years on that golf course, he not only faced racism and bigotry, but also inhaled chemicals everyday, that would eventually complicate his health in his old age and lead to his death. He was not a criminal, neither is Susana Ramirez, neither are the countless others who are caught in the middle of this game. A four year old girl should not be used as bait to catch her “illegal” parents.
And the law should not be used to uphold bigotry.

There is a serious drug war that could lead to a serious civil war in Mexico. We are in 2 wars overseas due to the need for BIG OIL, everyday the Earth becomes a threat to itself, and our nation’s own educational system is broken and embarrassing. Do I want my tax dollars to go to deporting innocent workers back to fractured countries???? ….Uh….no, and neither should you. No matter what side of this issue you fall on, don’t ever forget your “human” side.
